The SAP Finance Functional Lead is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimization of SAP finance solutions that support business objectives, financial controls, and regulatory compliance. This role acts as a key bridge between finance stakeholders and technical teams, translating business needs into effective SAP FI/CO solutions. The ideal candidate will provide functional leadership across project lifecycles, drive process improvements, and help ensure the successful delivery of finance transformations in complex SAP environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, configuration, testing, and deployment of SAP finance solutions, with a focus on SAP FI and SAP CO.
  • Gather, analyze, and document business requirements, ensuring alignment with finance processes, regulatory standards, and organizational goals.
  • Partner with finance stakeholders, project managers, and technical teams to deliver effective SAP solutions and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee integration of SAP finance solutions with other SAP modules, such as MM, SD, and PP, as well as third-party systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes through SAP-enabled automation, standardization, and reporting enhancements.
  • Lead and mentor functional consultants, promoting high-quality delivery, knowledge sharing, and team collaboration.
  • Develop training materials, facilitate workshops, and support end users through implementation and post-go-live activities.
  • Maintain clear documentation, including process flows, functional specifications, configuration details, and user guides.
  • Support the development of dashboards and reports that improve visibility into financial performance and system effectiveness.
  • Ensure solutions comply with applicable financial regulations, internal controls, data integrity requirements, and security standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams to manage timelines, dependencies, risks, and functional deliverables.
  • Resolve finance-related system issues and support continuous improvement across SAP financial operations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in SAP FI/CO implementation, support, or functional lead roles.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP FI and CO, including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Asset Accounting (AA), Cost Center Accounting, and Profitability Analysis (CO-PA).
  • Experience configuring and delivering SAP financial solutions in complex business environments.
  • Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA Finance and project lifecycle delivery.
  • Strong understanding of finance and accounting principles, including reporting, budgeting, cost control, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to analyze business needs, solve complex problems, and translate requirements into practical SAP solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain functional concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience guiding teams and collaborating across functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Central Finance, SAP Fiori applications, or financial reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager and data migration methodologies.
  • Knowledge of tax, banking, and treasury-related processes.
  • Industry experience in manufacturing, retail, financial services, or mining.
  • Exposure to cross-functional integrations and broader enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • An appreciation for innovation, continuous improvement, and modern delivery approaches, including automation and AI-enabled services.
  • SAP certifications in relevant finance modules.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree is an asset.
  • SAP certifications in FI/CO or related finance modules are preferred.
  • Additional professional certifications in finance, accounting, or enterprise systems are an asset.
