SAP Data Migration Specialist is responsible for planning, executing, and managing data migration processes to support SAP implementation or upgrade projects. This role involves analyzing data requirements, designing migration strategies, and ensuring the accurate and efficient transfer of data from legacy systems to SAP systems. The ideal candidate has strong experience with SAP modules, data management, ETL tools, and project collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis and Preparation
- Assess and analyze legacy systems to determine data migration requirements.
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather and understand data requirements.
- Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, and cleansing requirements.
- Migration Strategy and Planning
- Develop data migration plans, including timelines, methodologies, and risk assessments.
- Define data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
- Establish data mapping and validation rules between source and SAP target systems.
- Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL)
- Design, implement, and execute ETL processes using tools like SAP Data Services, LSMW, or custom scripts.
- Ensure data integrity, quality, and accuracy during migration processes.
- Conduct pre-migration testing to validate the process and minimize errors.
- System Integration and Collaboration
- Collaborate with SAP functional and technical teams to ensure seamless data integration.
- Support end-to-end testing of data migrations, including unit testing, system testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data migration processes, including mapping and validation rules.
- Provide regular updates on migration progress and highlight potential risks to stakeholders.
- Troubleshooting and Support
- Address data migration issues and errors promptly.
- Provide post-migration support to ensure business continuity and system stabilization.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience
- 3–5+ years of experience in SAP data migration or a similar role.
- Hands-on experience with SAP modules such as SD, MM, FI/CO, or HCM.
- Proficiency in data migration tools such as SAP Data Services, LSMW, or third-party ETL tools.
- Strong understanding of database systems (SQL, Oracle, etc.).
Skills
- Expertise in data mapping, cleansing, validation, and transformation.
- Knowledge of SAP implementation methodologies (e.g., ASAP, Activate).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Familiarity with ABAP programming (optional but preferred).
Certifications (Preferred)
- SAP Certified Application Associate – Data Migration.
- Certification in SAP Data Services or related tools.
