Development Lead – Job Description
Position Overview
The Development Lead (DL) is a senior technical role responsible for managing the technical delivery of SAP projects across all phases. This includes estimating and planning development work, leading and supporting the technical team, ensuring on‑time delivery, maintaining project profitability, and performing quality assurance reviews.
The DL collaborates closely with Project Managers, Solution Architects, Technical Solution Architects, and developers. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, excellent communication skills, and a proactive, customer‑focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the project’s technical development team throughout all project phases.
- Estimate technical effort, plan resources, and manage workload forecasting.
- Ensure timely delivery of all technical objects while meeting quality and profitability targets.
- Perform quality assurance reviews on development and integration work.
- Collaborate with PMs, Solution Architects, and developers to align technical strategy with project objectives.
- Identify and remove technical blockers for the team.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to all technical team members.
- Maintain a proactive, adaptable approach with a strong focus on customer success.
Required Skills and Experience (Must Have)
- 10+ years of SAP technical experience.
- Experience with On‑Premise, Private Cloud, and Public Cloud implementations.
- Minimum of 5 full‑cycle SAP implementations.
- Previous experience leading a development team.
- Expertise in ABAP, CDS, RAP, Adobe Forms, In‑App and Developer Extensibility in ABAP Cloud
- Integration Experience (CPI, APIs, OData, etc.).
- Familiar with frontend development (Fiori, UI5)
- Ability to perform QA on development items.
- Solid understanding of Clean Core principles.
- Strong ABAP development background (WRICEF objects).
- Broad functional understanding across SAP modules.
- Strong English communication skills.
- Demonstrated accountability, proactiveness, adaptability, and ability to multitask effectively.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- SAP BTP experience.
- Side-by-side extensions
- Ability to perform QA on integration work.
- CAP development experience.
- SAP Build Apps knowledge.
- SAP CALM familiarity.
- Hands‑on experience with CPI or Fiori.
