Syntax is seeking a Data Migration Lead to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of data migration activities across complex enterprise projects. In this role, you will lead migration strategy, transformation and validation efforts, load simulations, and cutover support to ensure data is accurately and securely transferred from legacy systems to target platforms. You will work closely with project teams and clients to resolve issues, maintain alignment, and ensure delivery against scope, timelines, quality standards, and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and execution of data transformation and validation scripts to map source data to target data accurately.
- Oversee load simulations, trial migrations, and production migration runs to ensure completeness, accuracy, security, and compliance.
- Coordinate with analysts, developers, functional teams, project stakeholders, and clients to clarify requirements, resolve discrepancies, and address technical or business issues.
- Support migration planning, cutover readiness, and execution activities to help ensure a smooth transition to target systems.
- Document migration approaches, decisions, activities, issues, and resolutions in alignment with project requirements and governance standards.
- Participate in regular status meetings with stakeholders to communicate progress, risks, blockers, and mitigation actions.
- Identify risks and dependencies early, escalate concerns when needed, and drive actions to remove blockers and support successful delivery.
- Provide guidance on migration tools and methods, including SAP Migration Cockpit, SAP Data Services, and SAP Datasphere, as applicable.
- Uphold data integrity and quality standards throughout the migration lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in migration processes, standards, and delivery practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM, Business, or a related field; a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Demonstrated experience leading data migration activities in complex project environments.
- Experience with data mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation activities.
- Ability to coordinate across technical and functional teams to resolve issues and maintain delivery momentum.
- Strong leadership and team collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively guide and influence others.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders and clients.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Proven ability to manage priorities, handle risks, and support delivery under tight timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP Migration Cockpit, SAP Data Services, and SAP Datasphere.
- Experience supporting cutover planning, mock conversions, or large-scale migration simulations.
- Familiarity with data quality, governance, and compliance practices in enterprise environments.
- Exposure to SAP transformation programs or other large-scale enterprise system implementations.
- An appreciation for innovation, continuous improvement, and modern delivery approaches, including automation and AI-enabled services.
- Experience working in multicultural and international environments.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, STEM, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
- Professional certifications related to SAP, data management, business analysis, or project delivery are an asset.
- Additional training or certifications in data migration, data governance, or cloud/data platforms are considered an advantage.
