Analytics Engineer (Power BI Focus)

Location: Remote – U.S. or Canada

Overview

As part of our growing Analytics Center of Excellence, we are seeking an Analytics Engineer with exceptional Power BI skills, a problem‑solving mindset, and a passion for delivering insightful, customer‑ready analytics solutions.

This role blends hands‑on analytics development with customer‑facing collaboration. You will implement and support advanced BI applications, help integrate analytics into larger business ecosystems, and contribute to pre‑sales innovation efforts that demonstrate Syntax’s thought leadership in data‑driven transformation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Implement Analytics Applications: Build end‑to‑end BI solutions leveraging Power BI on Azure and AWS environments, ensuring scalability, performance, and governance.
  • Develop Dashboards and Reports: Create impactful Power BI dashboards and interactive reports that deliver critical KPIs across supply chain, financial, and manufacturing domains.
  • Embed Analytics into Power Apps and Business Workflows: Integrate Power BI visuals and data models into Power Apps solutions where appropriate to enable true insight‑to‑action feedback loops.
  • Support Pre‑Sales and Demo Development (10–15% of time): Collaborate with Sales and Solution Architect teams to design prototypes, build demo content, present solutions to prospects, and estimate project effort and licensing requirements.
  • Provide Customer Advisory and Training: Guide customers in Power BI governance, user enablement, data literacy, and adoption of new features.
  • Ensure Analytics Quality and Best Practices: Apply solid data modeling techniques, DAX and Power Query M expertise, and working with SAP,  JD Edwards, and other ERP data sources.
  • Leverage GenAI for Efficiency: Employ Generative AI tools to enhance personal productivity, solution design, and coding efficiency within Syntax guidelines.
  • Exemplify Team Values: Collaborate closely with cross‑functional colleagues and demonstrate our team principle of “No Jerks Allowed” through constructive communication, mutual support, and shared success.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of hands‑on Power BI development experience (DAX, Power Query M, data modeling, Row‑Level Security).
  • Proven experience implementing Power BI solutions on Azure (certainly Data Lake or Synapse integrations) and AWS environments.
  • Strong understanding of core business processes and KPIs in finance, manufacturing, and supply chain.
  • Comfort advising customers and training business users on BI tools and best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with technical and executive stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with other BI or visualization tools (e.g., AWS QuickSight, Tableau, Qlik).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate.
  • Exposure to Machine Learning or predictive analytics solutions (especially when integrated with Power BI or cloud services).
  • Awareness of Azure Data Factory, Synapse, AWS Glue, or Redshift concepts to collaborate effectively with data engineering teams.

Work Environment & Logistics

  • Remote role – based in the U.S. or Canada; works core Eastern Time hours.
  • On‑site travel is minimal and may include occasional client workshops, team gatherings, or industry events.
  • Reports within Syntax’s Analytics Center of Excellence (aligned to Analytics, Automation, and GenAI initiatives).
