Position summary
The Payroll Specialist owns end-to-end payroll operations for our ~250-employee Slovak entity and provides operational support to German payroll processes. The role combines hands-on monthly payroll execution with statutory compliance, employee support, and cross-border coordination. It is scoped to grow over time into a senior payroll role with broader regional responsibility as the incumbent develops.
Core responsibilities
- Slovak payroll (primary, ~70–80%): Run the full monthly payroll cycle for ~250 employees - data intake, calculation, validation, payment files, and post-payroll reconciliation.
- Manage statutory filings and contributions to the Social Insurance Agency (Sociálna poisťovňa), health insurance providers, and the Financial Administration (Finančná správa). Administer year-end activities including annual tax reconciliation (ročné zúčtovanie), income confirmations, and statutory reporting.
- Maintain accurate employee master data, time and attendance inputs, benefits, and absence records.
- Serve as first point of contact for employee payroll questions.German payroll support (secondary, ~20–30%): Support the German payroll process in coordination with the German payroll lead or external provider — data preparation, validation checks, reconciliation, employee queries, and document handling. Scope and depth of involvement to expand as the incumbent builds German payroll expertise.
- Compliance & controls: Ensure adherence to Slovak labor law, tax law, and GDPR. Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain payroll process documentation and controls.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on Slovak payroll experience, including statutory filings and year-end.
- Working knowledge of Slovak labor code, tax, and social/health insurance rules.
- Proficiency with a payroll system (e.g., SAP HCM, Vema, KROS, or equivalent).
- Strong Excel skills.
- Slovak (native or fluent) and English (working proficiency, B2+)
Preferred / development areas
- Exposure to or willingness to learn German payroll (Lohnsteuer, Sozialversicherung, DEÜV reporting).
- German language (A2+) a strong plus.
- Experience in a multi-country or shared-services environment.
