The Control-M Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining the Control-M environment, a critical tool for automating and monitoring batch jobs and workflows. The specialist ensures that batch jobs are scheduled, executed, and monitored effectively, minimizing disruptions and optimizing performance. This role requires close collaboration with various IT teams to support business processes and ensure system reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Control-M Administration:

    • Install, configure, and maintain the Control-M environment, including Control-M/Server, Control-M/Agent, and Control-M/EM.
    • Manage user access and permissions within Control-M.
    • Implement and enforce scheduling standards and best practices.
  2. Batch Job Scheduling and Management:

    • Develop and manage job schedules using Control-M, ensuring they meet business requirements.
    • Monitor batch job executions, ensuring successful completion and addressing any issues promptly.
    • Adjust job schedules as necessary to accommodate system maintenance, updates, or changing business needs.
  3. Troubleshooting and Support:

    • Investigate and resolve issues related to Control-M jobs, such as job failures, delays, or performance bottlenecks.
    • Provide support to application teams and end-users for Control-M-related queries and issues.
    • Analyze job logs, system alerts, and error messages to identify root causes of failures.
  4. Performance Optimization:

    • Continuously optimize job performance and resource utilization within Control-M.
    • Work with development and operations teams to streamline and automate workflows.
    • Implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and reliability of batch processing.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed documentation for Control-M configurations, job schedules, and operational procedures.
    • Generate reports on job performance, failures, and other key metrics for management review.
    • Document and track changes to job schedules and configurations in accordance with change management protocols.
  6. Collaboration and Training:

    • Work closely with application developers, database administrators, and other IT teams to ensure that Control-M meets their needs.
    • Provide training and guidance to other IT staff on using Control-M effectively.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new solutions and workflows.
  7. Disaster Recovery and Backup:

    • Implement and test disaster recovery plans for the Control-M environment.
    • Ensure regular backups of Control-M configurations and job schedules.
    • Participate in disaster recovery drills and update plans as needed.
  8. Compliance and Security:

    • Ensure that Control-M operations comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Implement security measures to protect sensitive data processed by Control-M.
    • Regularly audit Control-M schedules and operations for compliance and security.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Control-M administration and batch job management.
    • Experience with Control-M/Server, Control-M/Agent, and Control-M/EM.
    • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, PowerShell, Python) for job automation.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of batch processing concepts and Control-M architecture.
    • Proficient in troubleshooting job failures and performance issues within Control-M.
    • Experience with database management systems and operating systems (e.g., UNIX, Linux, Windows).
    • Knowledge of ITIL processes and change management best practices.
  • Certifications: Control-M Administrator Certification or similar qualifications are desirable.

    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring reliable operations.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work Environment: Primarily office-based, with potential for remote work depending on company policies.
  • Hours: Full-time position with occasional after-hours or weekend work required to support batch processing needs and maintenance.
