The Batch Job Specialist is responsible for the scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting of batch jobs within the IT environment. This role ensures that all batch processes are executed accurately, efficiently, and on time, supporting critical business operations. The Batch Job Specialist will work closely with other IT teams to resolve issues and optimize batch processing performance.
Key Responsibilities:

Batch Job Scheduling and Management:
- Develop, configure, and manage batch job schedules using job scheduling tools (e.g., IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, Control-M, AutoSys).
- Ensure batch jobs are executed in accordance with predefined schedules and business requirements.
- Adjust and reschedule batch jobs as necessary to accommodate system maintenance, updates, or other factors.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
- Monitor batch job executions to ensure successful completion within specified timeframes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve errors, failures, and performance issues related to batch processing.
- Analyze job logs and system alerts to identify and mitigate potential issues proactively.

Performance Optimization:
- Review and optimize batch job performance to minimize runtime and resource utilization.
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to improve batch processing efficiency.
- Implement best practices for batch job management and processing.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of batch job processes, schedules, and configurations.
- Prepare and distribute reports on batch job performance, issues, and resolutions.
- Document changes and updates to batch processes in accordance with change management procedures.

Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with application development teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective batch job configurations.
- Provide support for end-users and other IT teams in relation to batch job operations.
- Assist with testing and implementing new batch processes or job scheduling tools.

Compliance and Security:
- Ensure that all batch job processes comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement and monitor security measures to protect sensitive data processed through batch jobs.
- Regularly audit batch job schedules and processes for compliance and security adherence.

Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in batch job scheduling and management.
- Identify opportunities to enhance or automate batch job processes.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in batch job scheduling, management, or a similar role.
- Experience with job scheduling tools like IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, Control-M, AutoSys, or similar.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, PowerShell, Python) for automation.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of batch processing concepts and job scheduling systems.
- Proficient in monitoring and troubleshooting batch job failures and performance issues.
- Knowledge of database management and data processing as it relates to batch jobs.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management best practices.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as ITIL, or certifications related to job scheduling tools, are desirable.

- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and reliability.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Working Conditions:
- Work Environment: Primarily office-based, with the potential for remote work depending on company policies.
- Hours: Full-time position with occasional after-hours or weekend work required to support batch processing needs and maintenance.
